Bruce Ashmore Biography
Growing up on a farm in England, one might never have expected to become one of the world's top race car designers.
Despite enjoying the farm work, Bruce Ashmore found he preferred working on the machinery. Thus, when it came time to choose a career, he picked engineering.
After receiving a formal education in Cambridge, England, it didn't take Ashmore long to progress in the racing industry.
Starting as an intern at Lola Race Cars, he moved up to chief designer for the ultra successful Indycar program in just 10 years.
After leading the Lola Indycar Design Team which produced the championship winning cars from 1990 every year through 1993; in 1993 Ashmore decided it was time for a change. He accepted a position with Reynard Race Cars and began to help design their first ever Indycar.
The car won in its debut race in Australia of March 1994, and then Ashmore took on the role of Technical Director for Reynard Motorsports North America.
This role took Bruce and his wife Sue along their three children, Nikki, Jaime and Simon to live full time in the USA. The family is now American Citizens and has since put down strong roots in this great country. Sue is an accomplished equestrian and you can check out her horse business at www.longlanefarm.com
As Reynard grew Ashmore became President of Reynard North America where in this role he created the Auto Research Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This company soon became the home of a state of the art scale model wind tunnel, 7-post suspension development rig, and design center. This ensured that Reynard would be the dominate race car manufacturer in open wheel racing in the USA for many years to come.
After leaving Reynard, Ashmore took on a new role as a freelance designer and development engineer, working with open wheel teams such as Players Racing, a stint with Menard Engineering (formerly TWR), and now C&R Racing Incorporated. It was during this period that he founded Ashmore Design.
While at C&R Racing Ashmore & Chris Paulsen designed the new generation USAC Silver Crown Race Car. Ashmore has since purchased this project from C&R and is working with USAC to create the Gold Crown Championship Series.
Ashmore quotes, "Throughout my career I've carried the philosophy, that design is about improbability which becomes possible, and with whatever you do you MUST win..."
